It seems to me that the ethical proposition put forward by most of the gay rights movement is freedom. That two consenting adults should have the freedom to do what they want.
I completely agree!
However I have a feeling that many of you maybe reluctant to carry that premise to its natural conclusion.
I entirely respect your right to make voluntary contracts with other adults. The question is (as it always is with us libertarians) are you willing to give me that same respect of self ownership and individual liberties?
Are you willing to drop all restrictions on the free market? considering that restrictions on the free exchange are in clear violation of the principle of two consenting adults should have the freedom that they want.
Or are you saying you have the right of free interaction but I don't? Are you saying you have the right to marry who you want but I do not have the right to exchange my own property with others (capitalism)? In which case you are not advocating freedom at all. But simple bigotry which you claim so desperately to condemn.
But it is not just capitalism that goes under the protection on the principle of freedom of interaction (which once again I fully support and uphold). Drugs should be legalized, prostitution, the borders should be opened, and affirmative action should be abolished. The list is endless.
I support the legalization of all these things. Do you?
The moment you apply principles of freedom to your self but not to everyone else you have forfeited any claim to liberty.
So this is my suggestion. Do not become another movement that only wants freedom for themselves, but not for every one else, but be a movement with the courage to apply the principles of freedom consistently.
This is the difference between bigotry and tolerance.
